Gnomedexing

Gotta go into the office for a few hours today then it’s off to Seattle for Gnomedex. What is Gnomdex? It’s a geek-fest the covers pretty much whatever is happening now or will be happening soon in the online world. This year it’s going to be about RSS, podcasting, citizen journalism, micropublishing, and more. This looks like the one to attend, too. Microsoft is poised to make some announcements at the show, as is Audible. Plus, there’s the added bonus of being in the same room with both Adam Curry and Dave Winer. I’m not sure if their personal falling-out and subsequent public arguments have helped our hurt podcasting but it will certainly be interesting to see them in the same room.

Canon SD500

Best camera I’ve ever owned. Period. This thing is fantastic! First, it’s crazy small and light. It’s actually smaller than my iPod and fits nicely in my Timbuk2 iPod case. But mostly it’s about ease of use. The camera is up and ready to shoot in less than a second. Let me say that again – before your finger is off the power button, the camera is ready to shoot. Shutter lag is non-existant and the autofocus mechanism is lightning-quick. There’s a pretty good movie mode which takes very nice vga-quality movies. After 24 hours, I’m a very happy customer.

New camera

Ordered a new camera today: the Canon SD500. Very compact, 7.1 megapixels, great lens, etc. I sold the Contax G2 in order to get another digital that was compact enough to carry around in my pocket all the time – smaller than our Canon S50. This should do nicely. Also picked up a little Canon all-in-one printer, the Pixma MP130 to replace our dead Lexmark.
